About
Amanda Lyons (b. 1991) is a self-taught contemporary painter of Trinidadian and Irish heritage who lives and works in Boston. Her work focuses on simplistic nature compositions and the cultural memory of her Trinidadian roots, creating work that feels both personal and expansive. She studied Psychology and International Business at the University of Arizona, with minors in Art History and Spanish. Her use of color theory is often used to positively impact her collectors psychology. The magical twin island of Trinidad and Tobago deeply informs her healing practice and creative output. Her influences range from Monet and Renoir to Frida Kahlo, Helen Frankenthaler, Frank Cuprien, Michel-Jean Cazabon, and Boscoe Holder, evident in her nuanced attention to color, atmospheric light, and culturally rooted themes. In 2021-2022, Amanda’s world changed forever. A rare and aggressive cancer, Ewings Sarcoma took part of her face and nearly her life. After 49 chemotherapy treatments, 32 radiation treatments on her face, 10 months in a hospital bed, and time on and off in a wheelchair - Amanda gained new eyes to look at this landscape of this one precious life. Despite living with lifelong effects and chronic fatigue due to an aggressive treatment, she continues to create. As a child artist her art has remained as the life force and testament to her life’s purpose. Amanda’s paintings carry her voice of resilience, the belief that even after life breaks you open, new found beauty, character, and beginnings will emerge. Amanda Lyons has exhibited work in California, Massachusetts, and throughout the Caribbean. Amanda has collaborated with hotels, restaurants, commercial brands, and private collectors around the world, building a diverse professional portfolio that bridges fine art and design.
